When I was drinking coffeeI used the drippers, perkers, and whatever, But has anyone tasted coffee done in a pot on a campfire!? To kill for.
So I did that at home. Almost as good at home. But the wood smoke, trout stream, and outdoor scents definitely make it better done near canvas. But I make it that way when we have guests, since it's no longer worth having a coffee maker on the countertop for most of the year, for only a week or two of use out of the year at most.
BTW, I no longer drink coffee. I was addicted to the caffeine and I realized that I didn't like me when I was jonesin' for a cup in the AM. Plus the aroma was always better than the taste. So I went cold turkey and here I am today. I still enjoy a very occcaisonal cup and people always comment when I have one; it's so rare.
Now if someone offered a really good coffee air freshener or something I'd be all over it! Nothing is as good on the nose as the aroma of coffee roasting or brewing. I miss that more than anyone can possibly know!

...a lot fell through when I was loading it up, so I ended up using a filter.... Cowboy coffee! When in the backcountry, I just toss fistful of grounds into a pot of boiling water. ...has anyone tasted coffee done in a pot on a campfire!? To kill for. So I did that at home. Almost as good at home. But the wood smoke, trout stream, and outdoor scents definitely make it better done near canvas.... Yep, that's a special event right there!

Got another percolator this weekend and it's kind of special to me. I told my mom about my new interest in percolators so she said she still had one packed away somewhere. She gave me this JC Penney's electric 9 cup model, it was a wedding gift for her and my dad, and since they were married in 1954 that makes it 58 years old. She said it was from some of the ladies she was working with at the time. I fired it up this morning and it worked just like it was brand new.

I have several items that I have collected from family. They are always favorites of mine. I understand how that goes. Plus I simply prefer older stuff

That's a nice Perk HT! wchnu, I hear ya. Old stuff rocks especially when it's family related. My hands-down favorite razor is my Dad's Double Duc Golden Wedge. That's the razor that started it all for me.

Tom,
I hear ya about the percolator from Mom. I too have a couple cookware items that my mom used. She has been gone for 19 years and I managed to get a few pieces that she used to make some of my favorite of her dishes.
She also gifted my lovely wife of 40 years with the recipe and technique of preparing some of my favorite dishes. Ham loaf and great meatballs.
Nothing like having something from Mom, no matter your age or hers. Use the percolator well and hopefully you can pass it down to one of your kids.

So, nothing against perks but I picked up a french press to try and am thus far very impressed. I was thinking it would work well for camping too. No filters etc. I have to get courser ground coffee though. Any love out there for the french press. The French had to do something right, right? LOL.

Ok, here's an update on the latest percolators I've recently added to my quickly growing collection. From L-R a small Mirro stove top $5 at an antique store, an Eckoware stainless stove top $5 at an antique store, an unknown brand stove top $9 at an antique store, a near mint condition electric Corning Ware $5 at Goodwill and a plastic Mirro electric that my mom still had, she paid $9.99 for it on October 4, 1982. The receipt was still in the box. I'm now up to eight of them!

I like the 3rd one from the left. Looks like it should be sittin' on a camp fire!
